The Massachusetts State House was designed by architect Charles Bulfinch and completed in 1798, more than two hundred years ago.  Located at the top of Beacon Hill, its dome is a symbol of Massachusetts and Boston.  The dome is 50 feet in diameter and thirty feet high.  It is covered with gold leaf which is 5 millionths of an inch thick.  Highway signs to Boston measure the distance to the Golden Dome of the State House.

An addition to the original building was completed in the 1890's and a third addition, the East and West wings, were added by 1917.  The Governor's office is on the left, the Senate Chamber is under the Golden Dome.

The Sacred Cod hangs in the back of the House Chamber.

You can also listen to the debates on the House of Representative's website.  Rep. Sandlin's guests are encouraged to take an official tour and learn about the history of our State House.  The official website of the Legislature lists all the 160 members of the House of Representatives.  It also lists all the bills that have been filed.  You can track the status of all bills you are interested in.  If you need help, call Rep. Sandlin's office at 617-722-2400.

Representative Sandlin is an active member of the Caucus of Women Legislators.  Here's a photo of many of the Caucus members on the Grand Staircase at the State House.

The House of Representatives Chamber is located on the left side of the State House behind the Governor's wing.  The large murals on the walls were painted by Albert Herter and are known as "The Milestones to Freedom."  On the left side of this photo  you can see the podium of the Speaker of the House and on the right is the roll call board which lights up as each representative casts his or her vote in favor or in opposition to a motion. Representative Sandlin and the other representatives are each assigned to one of the desks.  There is a gallery in the balcony where the public is welcome to watch the House of Representatives conduct their business.
